Nigerian film and stage producer Kayode Peters has died in Canada, with details surrounding his death still unknown.
Comedian Yaw confirmed the news, stating he is trying to reach Peters’ brother for additional information.
Peters was celebrated for his work on productions like Extended Family and the classic sitcom Flatmates, and was considered a major force in contemporary Nigerian theatre and television.

The confirmation came from comedian Steve Onu, popularly known as Yaw, who shared the news with Peoples Gazette on Friday.

He noted that while Peters’ death is confirmed, he has been unable to reach the producer’s brother for further clarification.

“Yes, he is,” Yaw responded when asked about the news. “I am still trying to speak with his brother but he is not picking.”

So far, no official statement has been released regarding the circumstances of his death.

Peters was well known for his work on several Nigerian stage productions and television sitcoms. Among his notable projects were Extended Family and the early 2000s comedy hit Flatmates, which helped define urban Nigerian television during that period.

His influence was widely felt in both theatre and TV, where he played a key role in shaping modern Nigerian entertainment through storytelling and performance.
