The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has boosted the national grid with an additional 120 megawatts (MW) after energising two new power transformers at its Birnin Kebbi Transmission Substation in Kebbi State.

In a statement issued on Sunday, TCN’s spokesperson, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, said the newly energised transformers, a 100MVA and a 150MVA unit were brought online at 1:18 pm and 2:56 pm respectively on Friday, June 27, 2025.

The successful installation raises the substation’s total capacity from 300MVA to 450MVA, enabling the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to distribute an additional 120MW of bulk electricity to customers across Kebbi, Sokoto, and other nearby states.

The upgrade will also allow TCN to sustain stable power exports to Niamey, Niger Republic, as part of Nigeria’s cross-border electricity commitments.

Mrs Mbah reiterated TCN’s commitment to expanding and maintaining Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure, ensuring efficient and reliable bulk power delivery to electricity distribution companies and regional partners.
