Tension has gripped residents of Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of a prominent agro-chemical dealer known as Alhaji Chemical.

The victim was reportedly kidnapped around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday at his residence in the Taiwo area of the community by gunmen suspected to be Fulani bandits.

Witnesses said the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, overpowered local vigilantes and fled the scene on motorcycles.

According to reports, the assailants had specifically targeted Alhaji Chemical in the operation.

The incident has sparked fear across Lafiagi, with residents calling on security agencies to act swiftly to ensure the safe return of the victim and to tackle the growing security challenges in the area.

This development comes just weeks after the abduction of two individuals—Abass Daniyan, the owner of Daniyan Saba Petroleum filling station, and his manager, Abubakar Issa—at Ndeji community, also in Edu LGA. The pair were taken on May 10, 2025, and released after spending a month in captivity, reportedly upon payment of a N100 million ransom.

Attempts to get a reaction from the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Monday were unsuccessful.
