Peace has been restored in Tuomo, a riverine community in Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State, following a decisive intervention by local authorities to settle a heated leadership crisis.
This is as Chairman of Burutu Council, Julius Takeme on Monday led a peace delegation to the community to spearheading reconciliation discussions aimed at reinforcing his administration’s commitment to long-term stability.
The development is sequel to a protest by a section of locals not satisfied with the election of Chief Arebebe Ebiyemi as Amananawei of Tuomo community.
The protest led to the involvement of police officers who dispersed the protesters with teargas in a bid to avoid a breakdown of peace and order.

Addressing the issue, Takeme emphasized the need for the implementation of a transparent and lawful resolution to maintain law and order within the community.
He charged the community chairman Mr. Edonyaibo Morentei Warebi and the newly confirmed Amananawei, Chief Arebebe Ebiyemi, on the responsibility of leadership before them to uphold legality and promote inclusiveness
“Leadership should be anchored on the rule of law, not on threats or coercion,” he told them, urging both leaders to unite the community and fulfil their electoral commitments.
Takeme warned against any mishandling of the reconciliation process, assuring residents that the administration remained fully invested in protecting lives and fostering peace.

The chairman was accompanied by a high-level delegation that included the Nigeria Police Area Commander for Burutu, ACP Redengha Timpa, and denior officials from the local government.
In response, Chief Ebiyemi acknowledged the chairman’s consistent intervention and pledging to work tirelessly for peace and unity.
Chief Ebiyemi further assured the council of his readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders in promoting a more harmonious and united Tuomo.
