Nigerian artist Shallipopi has publicly criticized the organisers of The Headies after he was not presented with the physical award for a category he won at the recently held 17th edition of the event.
The ceremony, which took place on Sunday at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, saw the ‘Cast’ crooner named winner of the Best Rap Single category, beating the likes of Odumodublvck, Magnito, Jeriq, and Ladipoe.
However, what should have been a celebratory moment turned sour when Shallipopi stepped on stage to accept the honour but received only a handshake.

Reports suggest the organisers had run out of plaques before his category was announced.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) the following day, the Edo-born singer didn’t hide his disappointment and hinted he would not be attending future editions of the award show.
“Mtchewww. The next one if una see me make I bend,” he wrote.
In another post, Shallipopi questioned the validity of the award itself, stating that he didn’t consider himself a rapper and felt the accolade would have been more fitting for other nominees.
“I nor go even lie for una sef, I nor want that award. Give the real rappers wey dey the category, me Shallipopi I nor be rapper,” he added.
Shallipopi rose to prominence with the release of his breakout single Elon Musk in March 2023. Later that year, in October, he launched his own label, Plutomania Records, signing fellow acts Tega Boi and Zerrydl.
