  • A gory incident has played out in Edo state, after two men lost their lives.

  • The deceased were said to have been crushed to death by a truck in the university of Benin.

Two men have kicked the bucket, after being hit by a truck in Benin city.

Daily Report Nigeria gathers that the deceased were members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria before their demise.

The incident reportedly happened in the early hours of Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in front of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin City, Edo state.

An eyewitness, who confirmed the incident noted that the deceased were on a motorcycle when they got run over by a trailer, which crushed them instantly and sped off.

The witness added that on of the victims was identified as Mustapha through his identity card, while the other had his head completely crushed.

The witness said;

The accident happened all of a sudden. The trailer was on its way to Lagos and before we realized what was happening, the men were lying on the road lifeless with their heads crushed,” 

“No one could say if the vigilantes were trying to stop the trailer when the accident happened. It is so sad that these men had to lose their lives in this manner.”

 

Also confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, Moses Yamu said;

It is true that the accident happened and that the men died in the process. However, I am waiting for more information from the DPO of the area who is on official duty,”

 

The remains of the victims were deposited at the morgue of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

 

Nigeria Declares May 1 Public Holiday to Commemorate Workers’ Day

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday to mark Workers’ Day Celebration in Nigeria.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this in a statement, commending workers for their diligence and sacrifice.
