Makama explained that the insurgents initiated the ambush by detonating two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and then opening fire on the convoy.
“The troops quickly took battle positions and responded with superior firepower that overpowered the terrorists. Thirteen of them were neutralised on the spot, while others fled in disarray,” Makama wrote.
The soldiers pursued the retreating fighters and recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives, including eight AK-47 rifles, ten magazines, several rolls of detonating cord, multiple primed IEDs, and a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition.
Although the convoy suffered some damage, with four armoured vehicle tyres destroyed and two trucks set ablaze, only one soldier was injured and is currently in stable condition.
Makama added, “The escort mission was successfully completed, and the relief materials were delivered to Damasak.”
