Former Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has vowed to serve only a single term in office if given the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor, made this declaration during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.
When asked about respecting Nigeria’s power rotation arrangement if he becomes ADC’s candidate, Amaechi said it was an “unwritten rule” in Nigerian politics.

He stated: “Of course. For now, the way Nigeria is, you must keep to that unwritten agreement that says North eight years and South eight years. I led the fight against the PDP government because there was an agreement that the government at the time would serve four years.
After four years, that government reneged. That would be unfair and cause instability because the North will react. This time around, the South must be allowed to complete their tenure.”
Amaechi also defended his position as a means of ensuring equity and stability in the country’s political system.
