  • Eyewitnesses report brutal assault by military officer in Mayo-Belwa.

  • Victim, Alkasum Ibrahim, died after being beaten unconscious.

  • Human rights groups demand swift prosecution and justice for the family.

A Nigerian soldier has allegedly beaten a young phone repairer to death in Adamawa State over a delay in fixing his girlfriend’s mobile device, sparking outrage and calls for justice.

The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday in Mayo-Belwa when the soldier, identified as Lance Corporal Ahmada A., reportedly attacked 23-year-old Alkasum Ibrahim at his workshop.

Eyewitnesses said the soldier’s girlfriend had earlier brought her phone to Alkasum for repairs. When the repair was delayed, she reportedly called Ahmada, who stormed the shop in a fit of rage and assaulted the technician in full view of onlookers.

“The boy was just hustling, trying to make ends meet. His only ‘crime’ was not fixing a phone on time. And now, he’s dead,” said Nuruddeen Abubakar, an eyewitness.

Alkasum was left unconscious after the beating and later succumbed to his injuries. The soldier has since disappeared, leaving behind a grieving family and an enraged community.

Local rights organisations have condemned the act as a blatant abuse of military power and are demanding immediate action.

“This is not just brutality; it is outright murder. The Nigerian military must hand over the suspect for prosecution,” a coalition of groups stated.

The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that the military is investigating.

Police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said: “We have been informed of the case. The military authorities are conducting an internal investigation and are expected to hand over the suspect for further police action.”

The family of the deceased, supported by activists, is insisting on justice, vowing to pursue the matter until the killer is brought to book.
