  • Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan found guilty of contempt for mocking a court order.

  • Ordered to publish a fresh apology in two national dailies and on Facebook within seven days.

  • Court fines her N5 million for civil contempt but declines to grant additional reliefs to Senate President Akpabio.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, found the suspended lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, guilty of contempt.

The court, in a ruling delivered by Justice Binta Nyako, stated that the embattled lawmaker disobeyed its order by publishing a satirical apology to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

It held that the said apology, posted on her Facebook page on April 7, made a mockery of the gag order placed on the parties by the court.

Consequently, the court directed Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to publish an apology in two national dailies and on her Facebook page within seven days.

The court also imposed a N5 million fine on her, emphasising that the contempt arose from a civil proceeding.

Although the contempt action was initiated by Senate President Akpabio, the court declined to issue any order in his favour.

Meanwhile, judgment is ongoing in the suit filed by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to challenge the six-month suspension imposed on her by the Senate.
