The factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, has told Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, to quit the party and join former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi, in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abure accused Otti of deceiving Nigerians by claiming to remain in the Labour Party, despite allegedly funding an “illegal caretaker committee” and supporting the coalition party.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, Abure said the Labour Party was determined to “recalibrate” itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abure said: “Our attention has been drawn to Otti’s interview where he said he is still a member of the Labour Party. We are not going to fall for his deception again.

“He formed and is funding the illegal caretaker committee that formally joined the ADC. The unveiling of the coalition on Wednesday showed every member of the caretaker committee joining ADC.”

The Labour leader said Otti’s recent conduct of local government elections in Abia State under the Zenith Labour Party further exposed his anti-party activities.

Abure added: “Labour Party is on the move again. We have the best brand in Nigeria, and we are eager to engage young Nigerians who have the interest of the nation at heart. We are willing to let go of everyone, no matter how high, whose interest in Nigeria is self-driven.”

Rejecting the coalition movement, he described it as a “marriage of political strange fellows whose only agenda is power-grabbing” and insisted that no true democrat would participate in such an “amalgam.”

“It is on this note that I call on Dr Alex Otti to move on because he cannot be in the Labour Party and be working against the party,” Abure declared.
