  • Heavy traffic overwhelms ADC site after coalition’s Abuja unveiling

  • Visitors encounter “Bandwidth Limit Exceeded” error message

  • Party yet to respond as 2027 presidential race fuels online surge

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) website has crashed barely two days after it was unveiled as the new platform for Nigeria’s opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The technical failure occurred on Friday as thousands of Nigerians reportedly flooded the party’s site to register as members, despite the requirement of a N500 membership levy.

A Facebook user, Unclè Anass Dukura, shared screenshots of the error messages, saying the site refused to load for him and several others attempting to sign up. IntelRegion also confirmed the inaccessibility, with visitors encountering the message: “Bandwidth Limit Exceeded. The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later.”

The error suggests the site’s data transfer capacity was overwhelmed by the unexpected volume of traffic. As of press time, the ADC leadership had not issued an official statement on the development.

The ADC was formally adopted in Abuja on Wednesday as a unifying platform for key opposition figures aiming to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Prominent political leaders present at the unveiling included former Senate President David Mark, ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Others at the event were former APC Chairman John Oyegun, former Sokoto Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, ex-Attorney General Abubakar Malami, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe, and media entrepreneur Dele Momodu.

The party, originally formed in 2005 as the Alliance for Democratic Change, was later renamed African Democratic Congress and registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
