Borno calls for urgent deployment of trained Forest Guards to reinforce overstretched troops
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has confirmed that 63 people, including five soldiers and 58 civilians, were killed in a fresh Boko Haram attack on Darajamal, a community in Bama Local Government Area.
The assault occurred late Friday night, targeting civilians who had only recently resettled after years of displacement. Governor Zulum, visibly distressed, visited the community on Saturday to condole with families of the dead and meet local leaders.
Addressing reporters, the governor described the killings as a tragedy for Borno, warning that resettled communities remain exposed to insurgent reprisals.
He disclosed that the numerical strength of the Nigerian military cannot adequately cover all vulnerable areas, making additional support inevitable.

“At this moment we have confirmed that 63 people lost their lives, both civilians and military, although the civilian casualties are more,” he said, adding that immediate deployment of the newly trained Forest Guards was necessary to complement the armed forces.
The governor explained that two sets of Forest Guards had already been trained and must now be deployed to forests and high-risk communities, where they could prevent further attacks.
Also reacting, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, representing Borno Central, condemned the killings as a crime against humanity, stressing that Darajamal and other parts of the state remain in urgent need of reinforced protection.
