  • Nigeria Immigration Service Update*: Foreigners with expired visas have been given a 3-month grace period to leave the country without penalties.

  • Overstaying will attract daily fines of $15, plus potential bans of up to 5 years or permanent blacklisting starting September 2025.

The Nigerian government has granted foreigners with expired visas a 3-month amnesty period to vacate the country.

According to a statement signed by Akinsola Akinlabi, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the grace period will end on August 1st, 2025.

During this time, foreigners can exit Nigeria without incurring penalties.

However, starting from September 2025, the NIS warns that overstaying will attract severe penalties, including daily fines of “$15, plus bans of up to five years or permanent blacklisting”.

In addition to the amnesty and penalties, the NIS has introduced mandatory online landing cards for inbound foreigners and exit cards for outbound travelers.

These documents can be accesse and completed at (lecard.immigration.gov.ng), streamlining immigration procedures and enhancing border control.
