U.S. President Donald Trump has drawn attention once again—this time by posting an AI-generated image of himself dressed as the Pope.
The digitally altered image was shared on his platform, Truth Social, on Saturday morning and has since attracted over 12,000 reactions. The White House’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle also reposted the image, amplifying its reach.
The post comes amid a significant moment for the Catholic Church. Pope Francis (Francis Bergoglio), the last head of the Church, passed away on April 21, 2025, after a prolonged illness.

A conclave to elect his successor is scheduled to begin on May 7, with 135 cardinals under the age of 80 expected to vote from a total of over 250.
Just last week, President Trump jokingly entertained the idea of succeeding the late Pope while speaking to reporters.
“I would like to be Pope. That would be my number one choice,” he quipped.
Pressed on whether he favored any specific candidate, Trump responded:
“No preference,” before adding that “an American cardinal from New York would be a strong contender for the role.”
The combination of Trump’s tongue-in-cheek remarks and the viral AI image has sparked a wave of online reactions, particularly as the Vatican prepares for its next chapter.
