Two members of the hybrid forces deployed to support military operations in Nigeria’s North-East have been apprehended for allegedly aiding terrorist groups, the Defence Headquarters has revealed.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Media Operations at the Defence Headquarters, disclosed the development during a briefing, stating that the arrests occurred during military operations conducted from April 26 to 29 in Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali Local Government Areas of Borno and Adamawa states.

The arrested personnel were among four individuals identified as logistics suppliers for terrorist groups, Kangye noted.

“In a well-coordinated operation conducted from 26–29 April 2025 in Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali LGAs of Borno and Adamawa states, troops intercepted four terrorists’ logistics suppliers,” he said. “Sadly, two of them were confirmed to be members of the hybrid forces.”

Describing their actions as a “betrayal,” Kangye warned military commanders to educate their troops and hybrid force members against involvement in activities that could undermine ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.

“Commanders are therefore to sensitise hybrid forces personnel to desist from colluding with or encouraging terrorist acts capable of sabotaging our operations,” he stressed.

Kangye also highlighted recent military successes in other parts of the North-East, where troops, in collaboration with hybrid forces, carried out aggressive operations such as raids, clearance missions, and patrols across Gwoza, Dikwa, Bama, Chibok, Gujba, Geidam, and Yunusari LGAs. These actions led to the elimination of several terrorists, the rescue of six kidnap victims, and the recovery of weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and bicycles.

In the South-South region, the military recorded major breakthroughs in efforts to clamp down on oil theft and illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta. According to Kangye, troops seized over 86,000 litres of stolen crude oil, 72,000 litres of illegally refined diesel, and more than 2,600 litres of petrol.

He added that several illegal refining sites were destroyed, with boats, storage tanks, mobile phones, tricycles, and seven vehicles also confiscated during the operations.
