The Osun Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected armed robber and six alleged cult members, along with the recovery of stolen motorcycles, following separate operations across the state.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, in a statement on Thursday on behalf of Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Gotan, said the arrests followed reported cases of robbery, attempted murder, and cult-related violence.

According to the statement, “the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command launched an investigation after two commercial motorcyclists reported separate attacks on 16th and 18th August 2025. Both incidents occurred in Ile-Ife.
“The first complainant alleged that he was lured by a passenger, identified as Johnson Olagoke, to convey him to a school. On arrival, accomplices of the suspect reportedly struck the victim with a stick until he lost consciousness. His motorcycle, cash of ₦17,850, a Techno phone, and a handbag were allegedly stolen.”
The second complainant reported, “on August 18, 2025, Olagoke engaged his services and deceitfully obtained ₦5,000 before leading him to the same location. He was allegedly struck on the head from behind, rendering him unconscious, while his motorcycle, phone, and cash totalling ₦10,650 were taken.
“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command swiftly swung into action; through intelligence-led operations, the suspect was arrested and two motorcycles were recovered.”
The recovered motorcycles included two Boxer motorcycles with registration numbers KJA 543 QN and BDG 556 QN. “Olagoke, aged 23, is currently assisting the police with further information to aid in the arrest of other suspects involved in the incidents,” the statement added.
In a separate development, the Anti-Cultism Unit, while on patrol in Iree town, Boripe local government area on September 8, received intelligence about a violent clash between suspected cult members.
The confrontation, involving suspected Buccaneers confraternity members and rival groups, reportedly occurred within a higher institution in Iree, with gunfire exchanged and two students injured.
“The injured students are said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. Three suspects, identified as Oluwadamilare Temitope, 23, Ayodeji John, 24, and Adepoju Adesoji, 27, were arrested at the scene of the fracas.
“Further investigations led to the arrest of three additional suspects: Yusuf Abeeb, 24, Fatai Quadri, 24, and Lateef Abiodun, 23, bringing the total number of cult-related suspects to six. All suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigations,” the statement disclosed.
Ojelabi reiterated that all suspects would face prosecution once investigations are concluded.

The Katsina Police Command has apprehended a 28-year-old man suspected of being a notorious car thief in Katsina metropolis.
DSP Abubakar Aliyu, spokesperson for Katsina Police, said in a statement on Thursday that the arrest was part of renewed efforts to tackle car theft in the state.
