The Federal Government has warned residents in 11 states of possible devastating floods following forecasts of heavy rainfall between September 14 and 18, 2025.
In a flood prediction notice signed by Mr Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, the Ministry of Environment advised several riverine communities to evacuate without delay to avoid casualties.

States and Communities at Risk
According to the National Flood Early Warning Centre, the areas likely to be affected include:
Adamawa – Ganye, Natubi
Benue – Abinsi, Agyo, Gogo, Ito, Makurdi, Udoma, Ukpiam
Nasarawa – Agima, Rukubi, Odogbo
Taraba – Beli, Serti, Donga
Delta – Umugboma, Umukwata, Abraka, Aboh, Okpo-Krika
Niger – Rijau
Kebbi – Ribah
Kano – Gwarzo, Karaye
Katsina – Jibia
Sokoto – Makira
Zamfara – Kaura Namoda, Shinkafi, Maradun, Gusau, Anka, Bungudu
The statement further warned that water levels on Rivers Gongola, Benue and Niger have risen sharply.

Communities stretching from Numan in Adamawa to Lokoja in Kogi were identified as being at high risk of overflow and must prepare for possible evacuation.
“The ministry advises that communities on the flood plains of Rivers Gongola, Benue, and Niger should evacuate immediately,” the notice read, stressing that state governments, emergency agencies, and local leaders must take proactive measures to mitigate disaster.
The Federal Government said it was monitoring developments closely and called on stakeholders to provide feedback and collaborate with the flood management platform to ensure timely response.
