Phil Foden opened the scoring, and although Haaland missed a sitter, he made amends with two second-half strikes to seal a ruthless win.
Consequently, City bounced back from two straight league defeats while United were left to pick up the pieces.
The result piled fresh pressure on manager Ruben Amorim.
United now sit 14th in the Premier League after grabbing only four points from four matches.
Meanwhile, the club’s woes spilled into cup competition too: the Red Devils were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in a dramatic 11-12 penalty shootout loss to Grimsby Town after a 2-2 draw.
In short, City’s clinical performance revealed Manchester United’s persistent problems which include defensive frailties, missed chances and a lack of cohesion and prompted urgent questions about immediate changes.
