Ibas praises president’s decisive action as stabilising force
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), has commended President Bola Tinubu for his “timely and firm intervention” in the political turmoil that shook the state earlier this year.
Speaking at the grand finale of the 25th anniversary of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Ibas described Tinubu’s leadership as “deeply reassuring” and pivotal to restoring governance.
Ibas said:“Let me express our sincere appreciation to His Excellency, Bola Tinubu, for his unwavering commitment to peace and stability in Rivers State and the broader Niger Delta.

“His intervention in restoring order and governance in the state was timely, firm, and deeply reassuring. Mr President continues to demonstrate strong political will for regional development, economic equity, and national cohesion. We are indeed grateful.”
The Rivers political crisis erupted after a bitter fallout between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, leading to chaos in the state assembly and widespread tension.

In March, Tinubu declared a six-month state of emergency, suspending Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and appointing Ibas as sole administrator. The drastic move drew both commendation for restoring calm and legal backlash from critics who described it as “executive overreach.”
By June, Tinubu brokered a peace deal between Fubara and Wike during a closed-door meeting in Abuja. Both leaders pledged to bury their differences and restore stability. They were later seen together at public functions, fuelling speculation about a fragile truce brokered under intense political pressure.
