They agreed on a 72-hour break between matches, a 21-day end-of-season rest and one rest day every week.

Clubs will tailor these breaks within existing collective agreements.

Union delegates will also join FIFA Council meetings to discuss player welfare.

This pact forms part of FIFA’s risk-prevention strategy under the International Labour Organization.

Both sides recognized that tight schedules cause burnout.

They’ll factor in long-haul travel, extreme weather and the need to balance domestic, continental and international fixtures when planning future calendars.

In June 2024, FIFPRO and the England and France unions sued FIFA in the European Union.

They accused FIFA of overloading the calendar without proper consultation and demanded a four-week season-end break.

Today’s consensus shows both parties want “to find the right balance” between club and international football and expand opportunities beyond the elite tier.

Off the pitch, Sunday’s Club World Cup final in New Jersey promises extra flair.

Robbie Williams and Laura Pausini will perform “Desire,” and Doja Cat, J Balvin and Tems will light up halftime.

A flyover and the U.S. national anthem will kick off the Chelsea vs. PSG showdown at MetLife Stadium.

Former President Donald Trump will even attend, underscoring how FIFA and global player unions now stand united to safeguard those who make the game possible.
