  • Protesters urged to avoid targeting oil installations over ward delineation

  • Security agencies placed on alert to prevent sabotage in Odidi community

  • CONDOFA vows to partner government to protect critical assets

The National President of Owners of Oil Producing Communities (CONDOFA) Western Zone, Chief Comrade Mamamu, has warned groups protesting the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recent ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency to steer clear of Oil Mining Lease (OML) 42 in Odidi Federated Community, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a statement personally signed at the weekend and made available to journalists in Warri, Mamamu called on security agencies to go after individuals plotting to disrupt oil operations and federal government assets in OML 42. He stressed that any action threatening vital oil installations would harm the local economy and endanger the livelihoods of residents in Odidi and its environs.

Reacting to protests by members of oil-producing communities in Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom, who are aggrieved over the allocation of only two wards to Ogbe-Ijoh, Mamamu condemned attempts to use oil facilities as leverage to draw government attention. He maintained that his group is prepared to work with security agencies to identify and apprehend those sponsoring acts of sabotage against oil and gas activities.

“Everyone has the right to protest, and I am not against peaceful demonstrations,” Mamamu said. “But any threat against oil and gas operations is unacceptable. Oil installations in OML 42, especially those in Odidi Federated Community, must be avoided to prevent resistance and clashes. Nobody has the right to shut down the Odidi oil field, which is under Ogbe-Ijoh administratively. Any attempt to disrupt operations there will have far-reaching consequences.”

Mamamu urged aggrieved groups to channel their complaints through appropriate legal and political channels rather than resorting to hostility.

He also called on the federal government to act swiftly to checkmate those issuing threats against critical assets.

“While we understand the frustrations surrounding INEC’s ward delineation, we must not allow these grievances to jeopardize oil operations. OML 42 is a significant asset for our community, and any disruption could undermine our socioeconomic stability,” he added.

Mamamu further disclosed that CONDOFA will partner with the Presidency, the National Security Adviser, the Delta State Government, and security agencies to curb the activities of those trying to frustrate development in the area and to protect strategic installations from attacks.
