The Kano State Police Command has arrested a well-known drug trafficker, 32-year-old Sulaiman Danwawu of Tudun Yola Quarters, for possession of illegal substances, marking another chapter in his long-standing involvement in hard drug distribution across the city.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, made this known during a press conference held at the Command Headquarters in Bompai on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Danwawu, who was previously prosecuted in 2022 for being in possession of 500 cartons of suspected Tramadol, was once again found with banned drugs during a recent operation.

CP Bakori stated that the latest operation is part of a broader push directed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to implement modern, proactive crime prevention measures aimed at protecting lives and property.
In a separate operation, police officers arrested a suspected armed robber found in possession of two Beretta pistols and ten rounds of live ammunition.
Between April 23 and May 9, 2025, the police recorded a series of arrests including five armed robbery suspects, seven alleged drug dealers, one suspected cattle rustler, four suspected fraudsters, 13 suspected thieves, and 48 individuals believed to be involved in thuggery, known locally as Yan Daba.
Recovered items from the various operations include two Beretta pistols, ten live rounds of ammunition, assorted hard drugs including Tramadol, Pregabalin, Diazepam, Codeine, Pentazocine, and Cannabis, as well as eight vehicles, three tricycles, two motorcycles, counterfeit currency amounting to 198 U.S. dollars and ₦311,000, 12 cutlasses, 15 knives, five sheep, two rams, 12 phones, one generator, and other household items.
“These achievements are testaments to the fact that the strategies employed are working. We have significantly reduced incidences of phone snatching, thuggery, and car theft,” Bakori said.
He emphasized that the Command’s success is driven by several initiatives, including 24-hour visibility patrols, operational division of the state into sectors, community policing, intelligence-driven raids, stop-and-search operations, and ongoing training of officers—particularly in the Criminal Investigation Department—to enhance both effectiveness and respect for human rights.
“I want to appreciate the support of the media and the law-abiding people of Kano. We count on your cooperation to keep Kano safe,” Bakori added, urging the public to provide credible intelligence to help avert potential threats.
EFCC Arrests Eight, Including Two Chinese Nationals, Over Suspected Illegal Mining In Ogun
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos have arrested eight individuals—six Nigerians and two Chinese nationals—on suspicion of engaging in illegal mining activities in the Ogere area of Ogun State.
The EFCC, through its spokesperson Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrests, which took place during a sting operation conducted on Friday, May 9, 2025.
