• Return follows Tinubu’s lifting of emergency rule in Rivers
• House of Assembly already resumed without him
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has finally returned to Port Harcourt, one day after President Bola Tinubu lifted the six-month emergency rule imposed on the state.
The Governor landed at the Port Harcourt International Airport around 11:50 a.m. on Friday to a rousing welcome from a large crowd of loyal supporters who had assembled at the VIP wing in anticipation of his arrival.

The development comes just 24 hours after the state House of Assembly resumed legislative activities, marking a formal end to federal control of the state.
However, despite the celebratory atmosphere, Fubara failed to appear at the Government House on Thursday, where hundreds of his supporters had also gathered.

The Governor’s return is expected to ignite fresh political activities in the state, which had been under a standstill during the emergency rule.
His re-emergence now sets the stage for a tense political atmosphere as various factions weigh their next moves in the struggle for control.
Fubara’s camp hailed his return as a symbol of resilience and popular support, while rival blocs have vowed to keep pressing their demands in the post-emergency dispensation.
