The 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) officially began on Friday, May 9, with a vibrant Cultural Day celebration that brought together top names in entertainment, all dressed in stunning traditional outfits.
The event, which marks the beginning of the AMVCA 2024 activities, was held in Lagos and served as a tribute to African heritage, culture, and creativity.

Celebrities dazzled in their native attires, combining fashion and culture in a colourful display that set the tone for the award weekend.
Big Brother Naija alumni such as Saga, Liquorose, Wanni x Handi, and Fairme David turned heads at the event.

They were joined by Nollywood stars including Mercy Aigbe, Adedimeji Lateef and his wife Mo Bimpe, as well as media personality OAP Dotun, among others.
The AMVCA, an initiative of MultiChoice, is an annual event that honours excellence in film, television, digital content, and entertainment across Africa. This year’s main award ceremony will be broadcast live on all Africa Magic channels on Saturday, May 10.
Nominations, announced earlier on March 23, span works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024. Top contenders include Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, Freedom Way, and House of Ga’a, which are nominated in categories such as Best Movie and Best Director.
In the acting categories, Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Stan Nze (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors), and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi: The Uprising) are among the nominees for Best Lead Actor. Chioma Chukwuka (Seven Doors), Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre), and Uche Montana (Thinline) are vying for Best Lead Actress.
Winners will be determined by a mix of public votes and evaluations from a panel of industry experts.
