In the clip he reflected on his journey and thanked the clubs, teammates, fans and, most of all, his family.
“I played for a long time, for big clubs, for my country. I learned, won, lost, and grew through it all,” – Boateng said in the Instagram clip that included highlights from his career.
“Football has given me a lot, now it’s time to move on. Not because I have to, but because I’m ready. I’m grateful to the teams, the fans, the people who supported me. And above all, my family, my children. They’ve always been there for me.” – he added.
These words closed an era for one of Germany’s best-known defenders.
Across his international career, Boateng made 76 appearances for Germany and scored once.
He was part of the squad that lifted the 2014 World Cup — a highlight that sits at the centre of his legacy.
He spent ten years with Bayern Munich, where he won two Champions League titles, and is most recognised at the club level. (2013 and 2020) and nine Bundesliga crowns.
These achievements underline why he remained a headline name for so long.
