Legal disputes and Senate opposition leave full access and resumption uncertain.
The National Assembly on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, ending the six-month period during which her office remained locked following her suspension in March.
The office, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, was opened by Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director of the Sergeant-at-Arms, assisted by security personnel. In a video released by the National Assembly, Adedeji stated, “The office is hereby unsealed. Thank you.”

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had been suspended over alleged misconduct during protests against the reassignment of her seat by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on February 20. Her suspension barred her from participating in all activities of the 10th Senate.
Despite the expiration of her suspension in September, Akpoti-Uduaghan was unable to resume duties due to ongoing legal disputes and resistance from Senate leadership. On July 4, the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled her suspension excessive and unconstitutional, but the Senate initially rejected her notification to resume work.
It remains unclear whether the senator will regain full access to her office or participate in plenary sessions when the Senate reconvenes on October 7, 2025.
The development underscores ongoing tensions between the National Assembly and individual lawmakers, highlighting institutional challenges in enforcing procedural and legal decisions within Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber.
