  • Youth leaders insist North Central deserves stronger political relevance ahead of 2027

  • Delegation to present petition outlining region’s contributions to APC’s survival

A coalition of youth groups across Nigeria’s North Central geopolitical zone has announced plans to dispatch a 100-member delegation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio to canvass support for Senator Mohammed Sani Musa’s emergence as the next National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The plan was unveiled after an emergency summit held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, where youth leaders from over 1,000 APC support organisations met to discuss the region’s political strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a communiqué signed by Dan Okwa, convener of the North Central APC Youth Vanguard, the coalition argued that the zone has been instrumental in sustaining the APC and now deserves a seat at the “table of power.”

They insisted that Sani Musa, who currently represents Niger East and chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, is the best candidate to reposition the party for future electoral victories.

“We believe Senator Sani Musa embodies the loyalty, vision, and grassroots connection required to unify and strengthen the APC.

“Our 100-man delegation will present this case directly to Senate President Akpabio and seek his support for our mission,”Okwa said.

The coalition acknowledged other aspirants, such as former Nasarawa State Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura, but described Musa as a “generational bridge” capable of rallying both party elders and the youth. They stressed that Nigeria’s ruling party needs a younger, dynamic, and unifying leader to secure the trust of its base and prepare for the next electoral cycle.

The youths also called on political stakeholders from the North Central zone to persuade Senator Musa to officially declare his interest in the position, arguing that the region’s consistent loyalty to the APC warrants significant reward.

“Our campaign is not about regional politics alone,” Okwa added. “It is about discipline, rebuilding trust, and ensuring APC remains Nigeria’s dominant political force.”

The delegation to Akpabio is expected to present a detailed petition outlining resolutions from the youth summit and highlighting the North Central’s strategic contributions to the party’s growth since inception.

Sani Musa has yet to publicly declare his intention to contest the position, but sources within his camp suggest he may consider the bid if sufficient consensus emerges from the region’s stakeholders.
