The interior ministry decree prohibits all “individual or collective travel, by any means, of any person claiming to be an Ajax Amsterdam supporter … between French road, rail, port, and airport border points and the city of Marseille”.

In short, police will stop organised trips and patrol key entry routes to the city.

The decree added that “Ajax Amsterdam’s travel is very frequently a source of public disorder due to the violent behaviour of some supporters” and that rivalries between fans of the two clubs “have been marked by animosity for many years”.

Therefore, authorities acted to prevent clashes before they start.

Marseille Shuts Out Ajax Supporters for Champions League Game

Local officials already moved earlier this month.

On September 12, Marseille ordered an away supporters ban on public roads and blocked access to the Stade Vélodrome for Ajax fans.

As a result, Ajax told supporters not to book travel and urged them to stay away.

This decision follows a history of trouble, for example, in May 2022 violent clashes erupted during a match between Marseille and Feyenoord, another Dutch club.

That episode still shapes how police and local governments judge travel risks and crowd control.

For now, the Champions League game will go ahead without visiting supporters.

Meanwhile, Champions League officials say they will monitor the situation and adjust security plans if needed.
