  • New price adjustment pegs petrol at N890 per litre at NNPCL stations

  • Move comes days after previous N5 cut across major retail outlets

  • Dangote partners offer slightly cheaper fuel at N885 per litre

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has once again reduced the pump price of premium motor spirit (PMS), adjusting it to N890 per litre, down from N895, across its retail stations nationwide.

This marks the second downward review in less than a week as public outrage mounts over rising inflation and the unbearable cost of living following fuel deregulation.

Checks by newsmen on Wednesday revealed that NNPCL outlets in key Abuja locations — Kubwa Expressway, Gwarinpa, and Wuse Zone 4 — have already updated their dispensing pumps to reflect the new price.

Despite the NNPCL reduction, retail partners of Dangote Refinery — including AP Ardova, Optima, MRS, and Bovas — are offering a slightly lower price at N885 per litre, intensifying market competition.

This comes amid ongoing deregulation of Nigeria’s downstream oil sector, which has left fuel prices largely at the mercy of crude market volatility, forex rates, and refinery output.

The National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi, confirmed that pump prices will remain unstable for the foreseeable future due to Nigeria’s market-driven policy framework.

Petrol consumers across the country have expressed mixed reactions, with some welcoming the marginal drop while others describe it as “insignificant” in the face of overwhelming economic hardship.
