  • Ex-presidential candidate says he won’t be intimidated by Governor Okpebholo’s warning
  • Maintains he’ll return to Benin if needed to support education or health
  • Declares threats won’t stop his drive to invest in Nigerians across states

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has declared that no threat will stop him from visiting Edo State again, despite a recent warning issued by Governor Monday Okpebholo that his safety may not be guaranteed.

Obi made this known on Thursday in Awka, Anambra State, while addressing journalists after presenting a ₦50 million donation at his alma mater, Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha.

Reacting directly to Governor Okpebholo’s remarks, Obi said he was not moved by threats, revealing that he receives threats daily but remains focused on his commitment to the public good.

“Threats don’t mean anything to me. I receive threats every day, all over Nigeria. The ones you hear about are only the vocal ones. If I get the chance to go to Benin again to make a donation, I will,” Obi said.

He condemned Governor Okpebholo’s comments as misplaced, stating that rather than issuing warnings, the governor should have supported the charitable initiative that was aimed at building human capacity in the state.

“What the governor should have done is to complement what I was doing in his state instead of threatening me. He should be sincerely grateful,” Obi added.

The former Anambra State governor stressed the importance of depoliticising acts of public good, particularly those aimed at supporting education and healthcare, saying his donations are purely humanitarian.

Obi explained that the ₦50 million presented at CKC Onitsha was a joint effort between himself and other old boys of the institution, meant to fund new staff quarters and administrative blocks.

He called on Nigerians with legitimate means of income to invest in schools, health, and social development, while distancing himself from corrupt wealth disguised as philanthropy.

“I did not say go and steal money and donate to schools,” he cautioned. “Those who earn honestly should uplift society.”

Obi further disclosed that he would continue his donation tour across various schools in the country throughout the week, reaffirming his dedication to empowering communities through sustained investment in people.
