Tragedy struck in Umuahia, Abia State, on Wednesday as a high-speed collision between a Toyota Highlander SUV and a stationary Mack truck claimed the lives of a man and his teenage daughter.
The fatal accident occurred at Amibo Ubakala along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
According to eyewitness accounts, the Toyota Highlander, carrying members of the same family and heading from the Enugu axis, crashed into the back of a truck laden with scrap iron.

The driver, reportedly speeding, lost control and rammed into the parked truck, resulting in the instant death of both himself and his daughter. Other family members in the vehicle sustained severe injuries.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) swiftly responded to the scene, extracting the victims from the wreckage and rushing the injured to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia. The deceased were deposited in a mortuary.
The driver of the truck, identified as Gideon Effiong Udofia, has been taken into police custody as investigations into the incident commence.
Speaking on the incident, FRSC Sector Commander in Abia State, Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma, confirmed the crash and stated that preliminary investigations suggest excessive speed or driver fatigue may have contributed to the accident.
Fake EFCC Operatives Arrested For Abducting, Extorting Students In Niger State
The Niger State Police Command has apprehended three individuals who allegedly posed as operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to abduct and extort students in Lapai.
The suspects—Emmanuel Linus, 30, from Deidei, Abuja; Hyelda Aliyu, 28, from Nyanya, Abuja; and Abduljallid Tanko, 33, from Karo, Abuja—were arrested on May 13, 2025.
