The Kano Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of two individuals, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman, for impersonating officials of the anti-corruption agency.
The duo were sentenced on Friday, July 25, 2025, by Justice Nasiru Saminu of the Kano State High Court after pleading guilty to a one-count charge of criminal impersonation.

According to the EFCC, Abdullahi and Usman falsely presented themselves as EFCC investigators and used fake identity cards in an attempt to appear legitimate.
The charge against them read:
“That you, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman, sometime in May 2025 at Kano within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, falsely impersonated to be investigators of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) where you used false identity card and paraded yourselves as staff of EFCC, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.”
Upon their guilty plea, EFCC counsel Idris I. Haruna presented the facts of the case and urged the court to convict them.
Justice Saminu convicted both men and sentenced them to six months imprisonment each, with an option of a ₦50,000 fine.
The conviction followed their arrest by EFCC operatives while attempting to carry out fraudulent activities using their fake identities.
Suspected Vandal Electrocuted While Tampering With Transformer in Abia
A man suspected to be a vandal was electrocuted on Thursday while allegedly attempting to tamper with a power transformer along Ehi Road in Aba, Abia State.
The lifeless body of the unidentified man was discovered at the scene with a jackknife and pliers, indicating he may have been trying to steal vital components from the transformer when he was fatally shocked.
