The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man over an alleged attempted culpable homicide and theft of a commercial motorcycle in the Sabon Layi area of Bauchi metropolis.
The incident, which occurred around 6:00 p.m. on July 20, 2025, involved two suspects who were confronted by irate youths after they allegedly attacked a motorcyclist.

Confirming the development on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil, said detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene, resulting in the arrest of one suspect while the other fled.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had boarded a commercial motorcycle with the intent to steal it,” Wakil said.
“Upon reaching a predetermined location, they allegedly struck the 30-year-old rider on the head with an axe in an attempt to kill him and escape with his Bajaj motorcycle, bearing registration number KTG 129 UV.”
He said the victim’s cries attracted the attention of nearby residents, who quickly mobilised, apprehended the suspect, and handed him over to the police.
Wakil added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplice, while the arrested suspect will be profiled and charged to court after investigations are concluded.
