The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education (Primary and Secondary), Donatus Ilang, has announced the arrest of over 88 proprietors and teachers for operating illegal and unapproved schools across the state. The affected schools have since been shut down, and their operators instructed to cease all activities.
Ilang made this disclosure while briefing journalists on the progress made in implementing the state’s new education policy. He emphasized that the arrests were necessary to enforce full compliance, noting that the Ministry had made concerted efforts to inform, educate, and engage all stakeholders on the new regulations.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Mary Otozi, warned that further arrests would follow if individuals continued to disobey the law. She urged anyone intending to establish a school in the state to act with integrity and comply fully with the new standards.
“We are determined to ensure a qualitative education system in Ebonyi State,” she said.
“We will leave no stone unturned to raise the standard of our schools. This is not about who you know in government or how much money you can offer. What matters is delivering the best for our children. We cannot afford to joke with their future.
