The Federal High Court sitting in Warri has restrained the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police from enforcing the controversial tinted glass permit regulation.

The interim order was issued in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, John Aikpokpo-Martins v. Inspector-General of Police & Nigeria Police Force, when the case came up for hearing on Friday.

Justice of the Federal High Court directed the police authorities to maintain the status quo and respect judicial processes until further proceedings are concluded.

Legal Victory

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kunle Edun, who led the legal team, described the ruling as a crucial step towards upholding the rule of law while the substantive issues in the suit are being decided.

“This directive ensures that the constitutional rights of citizens are not arbitrarily trampled upon under the guise of tinted glass enforcement,” he said.

The tinted glass regulation has long been a subject of public outcry, with many Nigerians accusing police officers of exploiting it to harass motorists.
