The South-South leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has applauded the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) for honouring the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, with a prestigious honorary doctorate, describing him as a statesman whose influence goes beyond regional politics.

PDP National Vice Chairman (South-South), Chief Dan Osi Orbih, in a formal statement on Saturday, lauded the university’s decision to confer the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree on Wike, stating that it reflects a national recognition of the FCT Minister’s consistent delivery in public service and infrastructural governance.

Orbih declared: “This distinguished honour is well-earned, It is a recognition of Barrister Nyesom Wike’s sterling contributions to the advancement of governance, infrastructural development, and public service in Nigeria.”

He noted that Wike’s legacy spans from his impactful years as Governor of Rivers State to his current tenure as FCT Minister, where he continues to demonstrate a firm commitment to developmental leadership and national progress.

Orbih stated that Wike’s achievements and discipline in governance reflect values the PDP stands for.

“We in the PDP in the South-South are proud of the FCT Minister and his achievements, his relentless pursuit of progress, and uncompromising loyalty to the ideals of good governance and democratic leadership,” he said.

He added that Wike’s recognition by UNIPORT confirms his enduring status as a national icon.

He said: “Wike will continue to be celebrated, not only as a leader from the South-South, but as a true statesman whose influence transcends regional boundaries.”

The ceremony, which also saw the naming of a convocation arena after the Minister, was widely attended by political leaders, academics, and traditional rulers.
