Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has declared that President Bola Tinubu deserves credit for the ongoing projects in Abia and across the South-East.

Kalu made the statement during the commissioning of projects in Abia State on Friday, stressing that the governor and citizens must recognise Tinubu’s financial support that enabled the initiatives.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Levinus Nwabughiogu, on Saturday, Kalu said: “If we need more from the President, we must give the true credit to the President so that he will release more for Governor Otti to do more for Abia State. He did not keep subsidy funds in Abuja, he sent them to the states. Abians must know the President is supporting their governor.”

The Deputy Speaker also appealed to President Tinubu, represented at the event by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to consider establishing a seaport in the South-East to boost trade and the economy.

Kalu further pleaded with the President to intervene in the demolition of Igbo-owned properties in Lagos State, urging the state government to allow residents to regularise documents instead of losing their homes and businesses.

He stressed that recognition of Tinubu’s support was not just a political necessity but a cultural principle among Igbos — thanking a benefactor to encourage further assistance.
