Following a tip-off, the Jigawa State Police Command launched a swift and coordinated operation in Garki Local Government Area, resulting in the rescue of an 80-year-old kidnapping victim and the neutralization of five suspects, with five others apprehended.

The early morning raid on May 16 was led by Commissioner of Police CP A. T. Abdullahi and was based on actionable intelligence and technical surveillance.

Sources within the command revealed that the police acted after learning that about 12 armed men on five motorcycles had abducted Hajiya Hajara, aged 80, from Minjibir LGA in neighboring Kano State.

Police officers from Gagarawa, Gumel, Garki, and Sule-Tankarkar Divisions joined forces with Fulani vigilantes and forest hunters under ACP Bala Umar, Area Commander Gumel, to storm multiple hideouts including Wadi Fulani Settlement, GGW Tagwayen Fage, Wusada Fulani Settlement, and Katoro Fulani Camp.

A gun battle ensued during the raid, leaving five suspected kidnappers dead. Five others, among them the suspected leader, 35-year-old Yahaya from Katoro Fulani Camp, were arrested with gunshot wounds to their legs.

The victim, Hajiya Hajara, was found unharmed, and no injuries were sustained by security operatives.

Items recovered included two AK-47 rifles, a fabricated LAR rifle loaded with 14 rounds, two motorcycles, and two mobile phones.

The corpses, wounded suspects, and seized items were taken to Gumel General Hospital for treatment and further action.

Police sources confirmed that no ransom was paid for the victim’s safe recovery.

A violent confrontation took place in Kashikoko village, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State, when suspected assailants from Anfani community attacked a couple, Aliyu Mohammed and his wife, while they were on their farm.

The incident, which reportedly happened on Friday, stemmed from a long-standing dispute over farmland ownership.
