  • NSA Nuhu Ribadu says Boko Haram, banditry, and communal killings have significantly declined in the last two years

  • Attributes progress to President Tinubu’s unified security directive and coordinated force operations

  • Over 11,000 hostages rescued, several bandit leaders eliminated across Kaduna, Katsina, and Zamfara

National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has declared a sharp drop in insurgent attacks, mass abductions, and communal violence across Northern Nigeria, crediting the improvement to the unified security strategy adopted under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Ribadu made the remarks on Tuesday in Kaduna at a two-day interactive session organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, where he briefed northern leaders on security trends since Tinubu assumed office in 2023.

Comparing recent figures with those from the previous administration, Ribadu stated that “1,192 people were killed and over 3,348 kidnapped in Kaduna State alone,” while Benue State lost more than 5,000 lives due to unrestrained attacks during that time.

He emphasised that the situation has drastically improved, with various coordinated military and intelligence operations across the North-West region leading to the release of 11,259 hostages as of May 2025.

He noted that many notorious bandit leaders and their gang members were neutralised in operations across Zamfara, Kaduna, and Katsina states.

He said: “These outcomes are not accidental, they are the result of a strategic, centralised security directive given by President Tinubu to end fragmentation among agencies and adopt a unified approach.”

Ribadu also acknowledged Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for his non-kinetic approach to curbing violence in Southern Kaduna and Birnin Gwari, describing it as a model for community-based peacebuilding in volatile areas.

The NSA, who was the pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said the administration is determined to maintain current momentum and restore stability to the region.
