Court documents releqsed by the Asaba Judicial Division show that Fejiro was accused of publishing “offensive statements” against the duo between May and August 2025.

In the first of charges filed under Section 24 (2)(c)(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended), the police accused Fejiro of using his verified Facebook page to accuse Governor Oborevwori of corruption, abuse of office, and election rigging.

“The governor traveled to Brazil without the people knowing and made it hush-hush,” and that “the governor gave contracts worth billions of naira to his boys for rigging the election,” Fejiro allegedly wrote.

“The governor sent officials to China, spending millions of dollars only to inspect CNG buses instead of attracting investors,” is another remark accredited to the suspect.

However, the most damning appears to be when Fejiro described Oborevwori as a “sleeping governor who rigged election.”

The police said this was a deliberate attempt to injure the governor’s reputation and cause public ridicule.

In charge two, the police accused the journalist of calling Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents the Delta Central Senatorial District as “grossly incompetent,” “sleeping senator,” “betraying ingrate,” “POS Senator,” “Scammer in NASS,” and “Dodo Senator.”

Fejiro Oliver is also alleged to have written that “Senator Ede Dafinone must be recalled from the Senate.”

According to the Delta State Police, these comments were part of a calculated social media campaign intended to “destroy the reputation of the distinguished senator.”

The charge sheet dated October 3, 2025, was signed by R.O. Eze, Esq., Legal Officer, Directorate of Legal Services, Delta State Police Command, Asaba.

Reacting to the development, Inibehe Effiong, Fejiro’s lawyer and human rights advocate, dismissed the charges as “frivolous and politically motivated.”

He said, “What the police are doing is not law enforcement, it is persecution. These charges are a desperate attempt to keep my client behind bars for exercising his right to free speech and holding public officials accountable.”

Inibehe added that the statements, though critical, fall within the scope of journalistic expression and do not meet the legal threshold for criminal defamation or cyberstalking.

Earlier in the week, the Federal High Court in Asaba ordered the Nigeria Police Force to explain why Fejiro should not be released unconditionally.

He had been detained for 16 days without trial.

The order was issued on Thursday, October 2, 2025, by Justice F. A. Olubanjo, following an ex parte motion filed by Effiong challenging the legality of the detention.

Fejiro, who serves as Editor-in-Chief of Secret Reporters, was arrested in Abuja on September 18, 2025.

He was then flown to Asaba after a petition reportedly signed by officials of the Delta State Government.

His recent work accused top Delta officials of contract racketeering and financial mismanagement.
