The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two suspected drug traffickers during a walk held to mark the 2025 World Day Against Trafficking.

The suspects were apprehended along Ihama Road in Benin City while the agency participated in an awareness march organized by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

The event carried the theme, “Human Trafficking is Organised Crime, End the Exploitation.”

Speaking to newsmen, the NDLEA Commander in Edo State, Mitchell Ofoyeju, confirmed the arrests and emphasized the agency’s ongoing commitment to tackling trafficking in all forms.

“In the course of the walk through Benin, we apprehended two drug traffickers. They will face prosecution in line with the law,” he said.

Ofoyeju also revealed that five other suspected traffickers had been arrested the previous week and were already undergoing court proceedings.

“This sends a strong warning to those involved in drug and human traffickers; they can run, but we will eventually catch them,” he declared.

He further highlighted the importance of the awareness walk and the broader mission of the NDLEA.

“Every step we took today symbolises action toward eliminating social vices across Nigeria and building a safer, more responsible society,” he said.

The commander described both drug and human trafficking as dangerous and interlinked crimes, driven by greed and moral decay.

“Human and drug trafficking are interconnected and represent dangerous forms of organised crime. These are highly profitable ventures that lure many people into criminal networks driven by greed and a lack of conscience,” he stated.
