  • They urged PENGASSAN to focus on correction and re-strategizing rather than dissolving branch leadership.

The internal crisis within the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has deepened after the national leadership dissolved the executive councils of its branches at the Nigeria Gas Infrastructure Company Ltd (NGIC) and the NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML).

According to a report obtained on Monday, the decision came after the executives failed to completely halt gas supply to Dangote refinery during the union’s nationwide strike, which began on September 28.

PENGASSAN had directed its members to cut production and supply of gas to the refinery as part of its industrial action. However, the NGIC and NGML executives were accused of failing to carry out the directive effectively.

The national leadership also alleged collusion and acceptance of monetary inducements from the management of NGIC and NGML, claims that have been strongly denied by congress members.

In response, members of both branches appealed to the association’s leadership to reverse its decision. They argued that the allegations, if left unproven, could damage the reputation and integrity of the executives.

They further urged PENGASSAN to consider correction and re-strategizing rather than outright dissolution, insisting that fair hearing should be granted before any final decision is taken.
