A special police team from the Delta State Police Command has apprehended a notorious kidnap suspect, Chiadiji Collins, popularly known as “Smooth,” who has long been on the command’s wanted list for multiple abduction cases in the Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, and Asaba areas.

The arrest was made in the early hours of July 27, 2025, at about 1:20 a.m., following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected kidnappers operating across Ogwashi-Uku, Ubulu-uku, and Issele-uku.

In a statement on the operation, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, in collaboration with the command’s X-Squad and Buffalo Patrol Teams, stormed a suspected hideout along Ibusa Road and arrested the suspect.

“Upon interrogation, the 42-year-old suspect led operatives to his residence at Ewulu community in Aniocha South LGA, Delta State, where a search warrant was executed. An AK-47 rifle and 40 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered,” Edafe stated.

Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, one Ezechie Andrew from the same community. Two pump-action guns and two live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

Both suspects, believed to be members of a kidnapping gang operating in several parts of Delta State, are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

In a separate operation, the Delta State Police Command also arrested three suspected cultists and recovered weapons from their hideout.

According to the statement, “On July 30, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m., operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS), acting on credible information, raided a criminal den at Big Gate, Campus III, Abraka. Three suspects—Benjamin Okwufulueze (21), Augustine Ifeanyi (22), and Iruma Japheth (27)—were apprehended.”

Recovered items included a fabricated Beretta pistol with four live ammunition, a black cap bearing the Eiye confraternity insignia, and a battle axe. The suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Eiye cult group.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has urged parents and guardians to discourage their children from joining cults or engaging in criminal activities. He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
