Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Idris Malagi, has appealed for restraint and calm following the controversial closure of Badeggi FM radio station in Niger State.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim, Malagi urged both the state governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, and the management of the radio station to allow the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to investigate and resolve the matter in line with existing broadcasting regulations.
The station was ordered shut by the governor on August 1, 2025, during an expanded Niger State APC Caucus Meeting held in Minna — a meeting attended by the Minister himself. The closure was reportedly due to allegations of unethical broadcasting and incitement against the state government.

While reaffirming the NBC’s authority as the primary regulatory body for broadcast licences, Malagi noted that the state government’s decision to escalate the issue to NBC was a positive step toward resolution.
“The NBC has the authority to regulate broadcasting licences and will handle the matter fairly and impartially,” the Minister assured.
