  • D’Tigress reached the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket final after a 75–68 win over Senegal, stretching their unbeaten run to 28 games.

  • President Tinubu and the First Lady lauded the team’s resilience and leadership.

  • Nigeria now awaits South Sudan or Mali in the final.

D’Tigress have once again asserted their continental supremacy, booking their place in the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket final with a hard-fought 75–68 win over Senegal in Abidjan, extending their unbeaten streak in the tournament to 28 games.

President Bola Tinubu praised their grit, teamwork and national pride, calling the semi-final “more than a semi-final; it was the final before the final.”

He saluted their discipline and focus, lauded coach Rena Wakama’s inspirational leadership being the first woman and former player to guide the side.

Mr. President also promised his all support as they aim for their seventh overall and fifth consecutive championship.

 

On the other hand, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu also took to her official X account to celebrate the squad’s decade-long unbeaten run.

“Your 10-year unbeaten run is commendable, as it shows your commitment, dedication, hard work and love for the game,” – she wrote.

“You are true inspirations and pride to girls and women in general. Thank you for keeping the Nigerian flag flying. I pray that…God will crown your efforts and grant you great success. We all await your arrival, with the trophy again!” – she added.

After trailing by eight points at the start of the fourth quarter, D’Tigress roared back thanks to Ezinne Kalu’s 19 points and Victory Macaulay’s decisive hook shot, outscoring Senegal 10–3 in the final minutes.

D’Tigress are now ready to continue their dominance as Africa’s top women’s basketball team, as they await the victors between South Sudan and Mali.
