Award-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has announced the end of his self-styled persona, the ‘African Giant,’ sharing a deeply personal and emotional message with his fans.
In a poignant post on his backup Instagram story, the Grammy-winning singer revealed that the ‘African Giant’ version of himself is no longer alive, explaining that it was “killed” by his own people.
He went on to describe the birth of a new identity, “Big 7,” which serves as a protective shield for his fragile heart.

“The ‘African Giant’ BURNA BOY died. His own people killed him. Then ‘BIG 7’ was born to protect what was left of ‘BURNA BOY’,” he wrote.
Burna Boy added that the two sides of himself—‘BURNA BOY’ and ‘BIG 7’—are often at odds, with ‘BIG 7’ guarding what remains of his broken heart while the spirit of the ‘African Giant’ continues to haunt him.
