This victory saw Nigeria making history as the very first African nation to win Women’s AfroBasket tournaments five times consecutively.

The match, happening on Sunday, was very closely fought in its early stages.

Nigeria’s D’Tigress Win Fifth Straight AfroBasket Title

D’Tigress slowly made their way through the first quarter, 26–21, but Mali retaliated strongly to equalize at 41–41 at halftime.

However, the Nigerians regained control in the third quarter and never looked back, finishing with a 17-point cushion.

By winning the 2025 edition of the tournament, Nigeria’s D’Tigress also secured automatic qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which will be hosted by Germany.

Meanwhile, Mali, South Africa, and Senegal are set to battle it out in a playoff tournament in March 2024 for the remaining African ticket to the global showpiece.

Nigeria’s latest triumph underscores their evolution into a basketball powerhouse on the continent, combining strong domestic talent with experienced coaching and international exposure.
