Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has vowed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will democratically take over Abia State from Governor Alex Otti’s Labour Party-led government in 2027, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will also be re-elected for another term.

According to him, “We have now come to take over, and there is no going back. APC will take over Abia State so that what comes from Abuja will be more impactful.”

Kalu revealed that the President was watching the rally live and was impressed by the massive turnout. He encouraged party members to ensure they were captured in the event footage, noting that everyone’s contribution would be remembered when the time comes.

The Deputy Speaker also used the platform to mobilize supporters to register and update their voter information, emphasizing the importance of active participation in the democratic process.

He hinted that President Tinubu, who was earlier scheduled to visit Abia for project commissioning but delegated the task to Works Minister David Umahi, will now make his visit during the December rally. Many within the party believe this timing will further strengthen APC’s presence and unity in the state.

Kalu maintained that an APC-led government in Abia would complement the policies of the Tinubu administration, ensuring that federal benefits and infrastructure reach the people more effectively.

Responding to questions about why he is challenging Governor Otti’s administration, which has been praised by some for its performance, Kalu argued that while Otti has achieved a few successes, more could be done under a government aligned with the federal leadership.

He said, “Abia has done well, but not enough. The state needs to do more with its current monthly allocation. An APC-led Abia would make sure federal projects and resources benefit the people directly.”

The Deputy Speaker’s remarks have continued to generate mixed reactions among political observers, with supporters seeing his comments as a show of confidence, while critics view them as premature ahead of the 2027 elections.
