Adeola Omotoso, daughter of veteran Nollywood actress Jumoke George, has broken her silence on the harrowing ordeal she endured after being trafficked to Mali under false pretenses.

In a recent interview with actress Biola Bayo, Adeola, 41, narrated how she disappeared for four years after being lured abroad with promises of a better life.

Her mother, Jumoke George, had earlier disclosed that her daughter had been missing during that period, sparking widespread concern.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), confirmed on Monday that Adeola had been found and safely repatriated to Nigeria. According to Dabiri, Adeola was trafficked to Mali under the guise of securing employment.

Recounting her experience, Adeola revealed that her nightmare began when she encountered someone who promised her a job in Mali, allegedly in a pharmacy. Without informing her family, she embarked on a road trip that lasted four days, passing through Cotonou, Togo, Ghana, and eventually arriving in Bamako, Mali.

Upon arrival, she was stunned to discover the true nature of her trip. “When I got to Bamako in Mali, I called the contact I was given. When I arrived at her house, she said she was my madam and that she bought me from my sister. She said I had to work as a prostitute to repay 1.5 million CFA francs,” Adeola recounted.

Shocked and devastated, she refused to engage in prostitution, prompting her trafficker to seize her phone and travel documents. “I told her I couldn’t do it and would rather die. She threatened me, but I stood my ground,” she said.

Adeola was then taken to a brothel but managed to escape with the help of a kind-hearted man who connected her with a food vendor. She began working there while trying to gather money for her return.

“While working as a food seller, I saw many Nigerians who died because of prostitution. I wanted to come back home but didn’t want to return empty-handed. I couldn’t even call my mum or my children. I was ashamed of myself,” she said with emotion.

She revealed the depth of her suffering, sharing that at some point she told her roommate, “If I die, don’t post me on social media.”

Grateful to have survived the traumatic experience, Adeola expressed deep appreciation for divine intervention. “I don’t know how good my mum is before God that made Him save me from all the evil that was about to befall me in Mali,” she said.

Her story sheds light on the dangers of human trafficking and serves as a stark reminder of the plight many young women face in search of better opportunities abroad.
